FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How does automatic tracking work?

Grant JustMiles location access once and it quietly notices when you start driving, records the route in the background, and files the finished drive in your review queue. Your phone stays in your pocket the whole time — there is nothing to start, stop, or remember.

Will it drain my battery?

No. JustMiles uses Apple's motion and visit-detection APIs rather than keeping GPS pinned on, so it sips power the way the built-in apps do. Most drivers can't find it in their battery usage list.

Is JustMiles really free? What’s the catch?

Every feature is free, and there is no catch. We built JustMiles out of frustration with $5–10/month mileage subscriptions.

Our early-driver promise: download while JustMiles is free and every feature stays free for you — forever. Early drivers are grandfathered in, even if we ever charge new users later.

Do I need an account?

No account, no login, no email address. Download it and drive. That’s also why there’s no password to forget and no server for your data to leak from — there is no server.

Can you see my drives?

No — we couldn’t see your drives if we wanted to. Every trip, map, and report is stored only on your iPhone. JustMiles has no cloud, no analytics, and no third-party SDKs, which is why its App Store privacy label reads Data Not Collected.

How do I classify a drive?

Swipe right for business, left for personal — half a second per drive, with instant undo if your thumb gets ahead of you.

What are smart rules?

Classify the same route the same way twice and JustMiles offers to handle it forever — for example, “Always mark Home → Office as Business?” Accept once and that commute never needs your attention again.

I have more than one car. Can JustMiles tell them apart?

Yes. JustMiles recognizes which vehicle you’re in by its Bluetooth or CarPlay connection and assigns each drive to the right car automatically. Add each vehicle once in Settings and you’re done.

How do I export a mileage report?

Open Reports, pick a date range, and export a polished PDF (with route maps) or a CSV — calculated at the current IRS standard mileage rate and ready for your accountant, your employer, or your tax software.

A drive didn’t get recorded. What should I check?

Three settings cover nearly every missed drive:

  • Location access is set to Always with Precise Location on (Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → JustMiles).
  • Motion & Fitness access is enabled for JustMiles.
  • Low Power Mode wasn’t on for the whole drive — iOS limits background activity to save battery.

Still stuck? Write to us.

We answer every message. JustMiles is built by a small team, so you’re writing to the people who actually make the app.

Bug reports are gold. If a drive went missing or an export looks wrong, include your iPhone model, iOS version, and — if you can — the file from Settings → Share Diagnostics.

This form is the only data this site ever sends anywhere — and only when you press Send. Your message goes to our help desk so we can reply; your drives stay on your iPhone, always.
